CORPORATE SUPPORT/SPONSORSHIP

After 411 miles in the saddle, 34hours39minutes, 30,000 calories burnt with no sleep, the Club would like to take this opportunity to say a tremendous thank you to one of the corporate sponsor that decided to but their full support behind one of the Club's elite member. Our President and elite racer Mavin Anderson got a well deserved "bust" from Geddes Refrigeration Ltd to assist him with acquiring suitable gears for this worth while charity. With the support from Geddes Refrigeration Ltd Mavin Anderson was able to complete the entire journey as one of the three people to do so in this years staging of the event. Thanks to Al Barnes for thinking so widely and coming up with this brilliant idea to use cycling as the platform for his brain child program. This is the second year's staging of the event and it has been a successful one. Last year the three finishers was Al Barnes, Gorden Barnes and Mavin Anderson. This year the three finishers are Al Bares, Mavin Anderson and Kirk Finnikin.

The potential is there to go even further in generating interest in activities such as this one. In order to maximize the marketing of goods, products and services for companies, firms must be willing to come on board to help raise fund for charitable causes like this one or even utilize the multi-exposure that cycling clubs and cyclist has to offer. The branding opportunities are endless in the sport of cycling especially in Jamaica. A company can brand the jersey, helmet, shoe cover, arm warmers, bikes, club vehicles and even club shirts and jackets to maximize brand exposure. In any other country if a company chooses to go this route they will be looking to "fork out" some huge amount of money to get this type of advertizing, while in Jamaica it is just a fraction of what they would pay for this publicity.

With all that said and done the task on hand is to raise the $4 Million for the Bustamante Children's Hospital and Chain of Hope. At this time the target is a little over the 50% mark, so we would like to ask anyone out there that had not yet gone to the site to help, they can still do so by logging onto the website

LifeCycle Charity ultra ride. less than 24 hours to go!

Yes folks,

Just 22 hours until the LifeCycle charity 10 ride out from Bustamante Children's Hospital in Kingston Jamaica, heading east in the darkness, to cycle, with minimal food and drink stops (10) for 36 hours and loop the whole of the island before heading back through the gates of the hospital on Sunday afternoon. What a way to spend a weekend - sitting on your backside, touring an amazingly beautiful country, and trying to save the lives of 8 small children through raising the money for them to have the critical heart surgery operations that they need through Chain of Hope Jamaica, a charity that works with Bustamante Children's Hospital. In August last year, we did a slightly smaller lap (400 miles v about 440miles - unless of course Nick Stephenson gets us lost, then we could be out there for weeks!). Last year we raised enough to save 6 wonderful children - who are shown on the attached slide show, along with the letters of thanks from their parents to the crazy bunch! To prove our money goes straight where it is needed, the 1st 2 operations were carried out 3 days after we finished. Also, we are buying what we need - with a little help from a few good friends who've donated stuff - Wisynco / Hi Tech bikes / Margaritaville / Juici (I need my patties to get round) / Jakes and Red Stripe of course.

We're doing our bit, thanks to those of you who've come in with us, as corporate sponsors or to donate on justgiving, it all helps. We've got enough for half the target so far - 4 children and their families will be smiling in 1 and 2 weeks time respectively, as we carry out their operations. I don't want to look into the eyes of my other 4 little friends, and tell them that I couldn't make the difference to them, so I'm going to keep this one up, even after the ride, to make sure that we give them a chance to realize their dreams of being the fireman / singer / footballer - or even corporate General Manager (maybe not!).

Send us an email, drop us a joke or 2 to read when we stop, inspire us to keep it up as we cycle throughout the night, drop a few more pounds, dollars or any currency into the buckets we have at various bars around the island, or that we'll have with us at the stops, come out to pat us on the back and move us along - to stop cluttering the pavement - and most importantly, use this as encouragement to do even more of what matters - living to your personal purpose, making a difference to others, and being the change that we all want to see on this planet.

Go get it - nothing ever really out of reach!

Al
